5 Reasons to extend your stay in Providence

Not only does Providence RI have a lot to offer our convention attendees but it is a convenient location for additional adventures if you decide to extend your visit to the Northeast.

1) Did you know that Boston is only about a one-hour drive away? Here are things to consider:

You might be able to catch a game at historic Fenway Park aka America’s most beloved ballpark. Here is a link to the home schedule

Boston Red Sox Tickets (tickets-center.com)

History of interest to you?  The Freedom Trail will provide you with an opportunity to exercise while seeing historical sites.   The Freedom Trail

Want to learn more about John F Kennedy? Boston is home to presidential library and is definitely worth the trip.  www.jfklibrary.org

The above are some of my personal favorite things to do in Boston but there are plenty more. Here is a link to other suggestions.  Boston: Tours and Tickets – Tripadvisor

2) About a 90 minute drive, Salem MA is another great destination. Home of the Salem Witch trials, this is another historical and fun area to visit. There are several museums focused on the witch trials including the following: Salem, MA: Witch Dungeon Museum – Witch History – Pirate Museum (witchhistorymuseum.com)

There is also a national historic site in Salem. The Salem Maritime Park was the first national historic site in the United States. For more information, check out Salem Maritime National Historic Site (U.S. National Park Service) (nps.gov).

Salem is also home to a great art museum. The Peabody Essex Museum Peabody Essex Museum | World-Renowned Art Museum In Salem, MA (pem.org) is someplace that I have returned to many times.

3) Also about a 90 minute drive is Hyannis, MA and Cape Cod. Many people think of the Cape when they think of New England and you will have easy access. You can also catch a ferry to Nantucket or Martha’s VIneyard. If you visit the Cape, you will see why generations of people return year after year. 15 Best Things to Do in Cape Cod (travelandleisure.com)

4) A little under two hours away is Manchester, NH. If you are a fan of Frank Lloyd Wright, there are not one but two houses owned by the Currier Museum that you can tour.Frank Lloyd Wright – Currier Museum: Currier Museum If this is something you are interested in, you will need to buy your tickets fast as they go early.

5) Is visiting the Maine Coast on your bucket list? You can see the beautiful beaches at York Beach, ME in little more than a two-hour drive. If you want to continue up the coast, you can visit Kennebunkport and see President Bush’s home and Freeport, the home of LL Bean.

This is just a small sampling of what you could do with a few extra days in the Northeast and Region 1. We hope we will see you in Providence.
