“I get too many emails!” How many times have you heard that? How many times have you thought or said that yourself? A few years ago, I thought that and was concerned that my emails from the International Association of Insurance Professionals were the culprit. I no longer feel that way. How did I solve my problem?
First of all, I set up a dedicated IAIP address. As a then new Regional Vice President, I wanted to make sure that I received all pertinent emails. Since this was a new and separate email address, this cut way down on junk mail. I don’t use this email for anything except my IAIP business, so I don’t get emails from the company that I ordered a birthday gift for my husband three years ago. I made sure that I updated my email in my profile on the IAIP website. I used gmail for my new email because it was free, and it was easy to use. I set up a separate icon for that account on my phone and I was in business.
After a few weeks with my dedicated IAIP email address, I realized that I didn’t get as many IAIP emails as I thought. However, there were a few emails that I didn’t find important. I went into my profile on the IAIP website and clicked the tab on the top that said More. From there, I selected Blogs. When that opened, I chose Information & Settings. It opened to the Preferences section where I was able to pick and choose which emails and notifications I want to receive. I made sure to select ’email me when someone messages me’ but didn’t ask for an email when my connections update their profiles. It is up to you. What I didn’t do was go into one of the emails I received from IAIP and select unsubscribe. That action would have turned off all of the emails I receive from IAIP including voting, convention information and the Legacy Foundation and other newsletters. I want to see those!
With these simple steps, I am able to stay in-the-know and respond to my emails in a timely fashion. It really is as easy as that!
